League of Legends FPS on our refurbished gaming PCs: build-by-build guide

Conservative League of Legends frame rates at 1080p for every refurbished gaming PC we sell, the settings to use, and which build gives the best value.

League of Legends is one of the lightest popular esports games to run, so all of our refurbished gaming PCs handle it comfortably. This guide gives conservative frame rates for every build, the settings to use, and which PC gives you the best value if League is your main game.

The short answer: every one of our PCs runs League smoothly, even on high settings. If League is all you play, a GTX 750 4GB build is plenty. Choose a GTX 1060 6GB or RX 580 8GB build if you also want to play more demanding games.

How we worked out these numbers

All figures are for 1920 x 1080 (1080p) with 8GB of RAM, the standard memory in every build. They are based on published tests of these graphics cards, adjusted downwards to allow for our older processors and for game updates that have made some titles more demanding over the years. We would rather you get more than we promise, not less. Busy moments will always run lower than quiet ones, so we give a range rather than a single number, and exact results can vary with game updates and drivers.

League of Legends FPS by graphics card

Graphics cardVery High settingsMedium settings
GTX 750 4GB100–150 FPS140–200 FPS
GTX 1060 6GB150–220 FPS180–260 FPS
RX 580 8GB140–210 FPS170–250 FPS

Big teamfights with lots of abilities on screen are where frame rates dip, sometimes below these ranges for a few seconds.

Does the processor make a difference?

Yes, because League is so light on graphics. On the GTX 1060 6GB and RX 580 8GB builds, the processor sets the limit: the i7-4770 builds sit at the top of each range, the i5-4570 and i7-3770 close behind, and the i7-2600 and i5-3470 towards the bottom. On every build, League stays smooth.

Best League of Legends settings for our PCs

  • Graphics: Very High on the GTX 1060 6GB and RX 580 8GB builds, and High or Medium on the GTX 750 4GB builds.
  • Frame rate cap: set it to match or a little above your monitor’s refresh rate, for example 144 on a 144Hz monitor. Uncapped frame rates make the PC run hotter and louder for no real benefit.
  • Shadows: Off or Low. This gives the biggest boost in teamfights.
  • Hide eye candy: switch this on to remove decorative effects that don’t affect the game.

60Hz or 144Hz monitor?

All of our builds easily beat 60 FPS in League. For a 144Hz monitor, the GTX 1060 6GB and RX 580 8GB builds stay above it on Very High for most of a game, and a GTX 750 4GB build gets there on Medium.

Worth knowing before you buy

  • Windows and anti-cheat: League uses Riot’s Vanguard anti-cheat, the same system as Valorant. Our PCs come with Windows 10 Pro, fully updated.
  • Storage: League is a modest install and fits on our standard 120GB SSD alongside Windows, so it loads quickly.
  • Memory: 8GB is fine for League on its own. The 16GB upgrade helps if you stream, record or keep lots of browser tabs open.
