Rocket League is light on hardware, so it is one of the best games to play on a refurbished gaming PC. This guide gives conservative frame rates for every build we sell, the settings to use, and which PC to choose for your monitor.
The short answer: every one of our PCs runs Rocket League smoothly. The GTX 750 4GB builds are a great budget choice for it, and the GTX 1060 6GB and RX 580 8GB builds have more than enough for a 144Hz monitor, even on high quality.
How we worked out these numbers
All figures are for 1920 x 1080 (1080p) with 8GB of RAM, the standard memory in every build. They are based on published tests of these graphics cards, adjusted downwards to allow for our older processors and for game updates that have made some titles more demanding over the years. We would rather you get more than we promise, not less. Busy moments will always run lower than quiet ones, so we give a range rather than a single number, and exact results can vary with game updates and drivers.
Rocket League FPS by graphics card
| Graphics card | Performance render quality | High Quality render quality |
|---|---|---|
| GTX 750 4GB | 110–160 FPS | 80–110 FPS |
| GTX 1060 6GB | 180–250 FPS | 140–200 FPS |
| RX 580 8GB | 170–240 FPS | 130–190 FPS |
Busy kick-offs and lots of boost effects in a crowded goalmouth can pull frame rates slightly below these ranges.
Does the processor make a difference?
A little. Rocket League mainly uses one or two processor cores, so the newer Haswell chips (i7-4770 and i5-4570) sit towards the top of each range and the i5-3470 and i7-2600 towards the bottom. On the GTX 750 4GB builds the graphics card is the main limit, so the processor matters less.
Best Rocket League settings for our PCs
- Render quality: High Quality on the GTX 1060 6GB and RX 580 8GB builds. On a GTX 750 4GB build, choose Performance or Quality if you want to get closer to 144 FPS.
- Render detail: Performance or Quality. Competitive players usually keep this lower for a cleaner picture.
- Motion blur, bloom and lens flares: Off. They make the ball and cars harder to read.
- Vertical sync: Off, and set the frame rate cap to match or exceed your monitor’s refresh rate.
60Hz or 144Hz monitor?
Any of our builds will happily drive a 60Hz monitor. For 144Hz, the GTX 1060 6GB and RX 580 8GB builds stay above it on High Quality for most of a match, and a GTX 750 4GB build gets there on the Performance render setting.
Worth knowing before you buy
- Storage: Rocket League is a small install and fits on our standard 120GB SSD alongside Windows, so it loads quickly.
- Memory: 8GB is plenty for Rocket League on its own. The 16GB upgrade only matters if you also stream, record or keep lots of browser tabs open.
Which build should you choose for Rocket League?
- Best value: a GTX 750 4GB build, which runs Rocket League smoothly on a 60Hz monitor.
- For a 144Hz monitor: a GTX 1060 6GB build or an RX 580 8GB build, both of which also handle more demanding games.
